Great port... But that's about it
Michael Liu write:
Personally, I loved the original "Wings" on iPod Touch/iPhone. Finally, a flight simulator that you can just sit down and enjoy, sailing through beautiful virtual environments.
As great as this rendition may be, it's simply not enough to justify the price hike. The original "Wings", pixel-doubled, looks good enough on here, and for 2/5ths the price. I really think one or two new environments should be added to justify the price. Another music track wouldn't hurt either. Also, this version has a sidebar advertising Bottle Rocket's apps... That is always expanded when you open the app. Please, have some sort of count-down or something, like you did with the iPod Touch/iPhone version of "Wings": show it expanded only 5 times or something, and then default it to closed. When this is done, this app will truly commend a 5-star rating.
This update vastly improves upon the previous, making the app launch faster, fixing the icons (previously, the 1st and 2nd icons were switched until they were clicked on), and it shows a loading bar for the environments. However, the "range" setting is taken away. The update notes a "longer viewing distance". However, even if the average viewing distance was longer, the looking range seems to be set on a "low" setting. This is unacceptable. Whether this is an accident or purposeful, there is no reason to take away this option.
However, the app is worth it to me, simply because I enjoy it. That in itself deserves a 4-star rating. However, I expect Bottle Rocket to address these issues in the next update. Also, the description is misleading: Bottle Rocket should address that there is not much of a "game" component to it, and it is simply for the enjoyment of flying. Let us hope they act in the interest of the unwary consumer.
Not a Flight Sim
David Strassman write:
This boring app put me to sleep after 1 min.
Flight Sim, means "Flight Simulator", and I was expecting a minium of aircraft controls, runways to land and take off on.
Not. No controls. No runways. Just four slightly differently landscapes to fly over, never landing or taking off.
The horizon is rendered before your eyes so you can't really see far into the distance.
This is boring.
I think they spent all their R&D money on the background music.
This is a game I have played on my iPod in the past many times.
It's always been more of a relaxing simulation than a game for me.
It was also an early start at showing the iPod was more than
a cell phone game player (graphically).
Now that it has released for the iPad, it looks even better.
I get to fall in love all over again!
This is one of those apps that looks GREAT on the larger
screen. I am impressed.
It's really enjoyable to play while laying in bed.
Since this game does exactly what it is supposed to, and
it does it well, I am giving it 5 stars.
